Meet the Maker with Little Bean

June 2, 2019

Hello All ! This is the first of our new blog series ... Meet the Maker.

It will give you a chance to find out a bit more about the wonderful crafters behind the businesses that sell at The Crafters Market. Here you will not only find out about the businesses but you'll also discover more about the people behind them ... including a few random facts !!

So today is the first in the series and we are meeting Liz from Little Bean ... and she is also one fifth of the Crafters Market team !!

Little Bean is based in Ashtead, Surrey at Liz's home. She sews adorable clothes and accessories for little ones, all hand made in beautiful fabrics. They are always bright and cheerful, often featuring cute designs such as animals, flowers or wonderful geometric patterns.

The range includes Liz's favourite, the Ella dress. Named after her eldest daughter, it is a beautiful dress that suits all ages ... even working as they grow up, Ella has worn some of her original dresses as tops as she has got bigger !

Liz has also started to venture into 'Big Girl' skirts for adults, they are made out of similarly beautiful fabrics and will stop you being jealous of the little ones' wardrobe !!

Having set up the business she has decided that the best thing about it is the flexibility and the fact you can be your own boss ... Something we're sure a lot of small business owners will agree with !

However obviously there are negative points too, she says that she often feels there aren't enough hours in the day! Particularly with her 2 young children to look after too ... she grabs slots here and there - often during nap times !! At these times she can often be found in her 'haven of calm', the cabin at the end of her garden. It's a beautiful space that we think would make many dining table crafters very jealous !! She describes crafting as good therapy and loves seeing the fabrics coming to life as a garment.

Her favourite things to do to relax are reading, going for walks and of course sewing.

We then asked her for 3 random facts about herself and they certainly are random!!!

1. I’m a big hip hop and grime fan. I love Stormzy! I listen to him loads while I’m working which people find quite weird!

2. I have a degree in Photography which I no longer use and wish I had studied something else. I’m a qualified Primary school teacher.

3. I used to work for a cleaning company as a student and one of our clients was Paula Yates. I used to clean her house most weeks through my Summer job.

One of the things we are really passionate about is supporting other small businesses so we asked Liz if she had any particular favourites. 'I have a few small businesses that I really like. Claire Louise Creations, So Satsuma, Wolf and Moon and of course the girls that I run The Crafter's Market with.' Do check out her favourites on social media and show them some support ...

And finally you can find Little Bean's links below, so do go and drool over all the beautiful pieces ...
