The Stash Swap is back...

April 26, 2019

We’re bringing back the stash swap and we cannot wait …

In this time when we are all becoming so much more aware of the ever increasing problem of our fast fashion way of life it’s important to find ways to combat it. As crafters we are so often drawn to craft shops, fabric websites and the art sections … tempted (and often taken in) by all the beautiful, brand spanking new supplies! This is wonderful and of course, by supporting big and small businesses we are ensuring our crafty world thrives, however it is often forgotten how much it impacts our planet.

So we need to find ways to do both …

Support your local businesses, buy fabric from small shops and also be sure to support the larger stores so we don’t loose them on our highstreets!

And at the same time shop sustainably …

Visit charity shops regularly … they are a whole world of unloved textiles! Whether it be old duvet covers, curtains or cushions … or clothes that you can refashion. They even sell yarn that someone doesn’t want anymore, buttons that have been thrown away and you can even find sewing and knitting patterns!

Or come and help us do our bit for sustainable crafting ! We held our stash swap last year during a couple of our markets and it’s back this year too …

It’s a super simple idea that has been really popular, here’s how it works …

  1. Have sort out at home – go through your craft supplies and discover what you have bought but will never use! Believe us there will be more than you expect !!

  2. Bring it along with you when you visit The Crafters Market @ Nutfield Lodge (1st one is being held on Saturday 4th May).

  3. Find our ‘Stash Swap’ table and add it to the collection

  4. Choose something you will love and use … maybe there will be a piece of fabric that would suit a project you’ve been wanting to try. Or perhaps you’ve wanted to try out knitting but not sure on spending out on yarn and needles in case you won’t enjoy it, grab some from the stash swap table and you can give it a go!

  5. Don’t forget to bring your own shopping bags to carry your new stash – no singe use plastic here !!

And don’t worry if you haven’t had a chance to have a sort out, or maybe you’re new to crafting and don’t have a stash to destash !! That’s absolutely fine! We have got a charity pot for our chosen charity – Cystic Fibrosis Trust … so if you haven’t bought any supplies to add to the table we’d really appreciate any donations to the charity.

There’s under 2 weeks to get sorting through your stash … we’d love to see fabric, yarn, patterns, paper craft, baking supplies, art materials … anything and everything ! Remember one man’s trash is another man’s treasure !

And don’t worry … after every few events we will sort through and pass on some donations to local charity shops, schools and other worthy causes! Nothing will go to waste …

We hope you’ll come along and take part … remember to tag us in your stash swap success photos ! We want to see your hauls – and what you decide to make out of them too !

Thankyou
The Crafters Market Team
