Behind the Crafter: Megan Heffer, Little Stitch of Nature.

August 6, 2017

We really love our stall holders at The Crafter’s Market. We enjoy hearing all about their crafting journeys, so we thought we would ask if they would share it with you…

We start our first ever blog by introducing......

Megan Heffer,

the lady behind...

Little Stitch of Nature

So we started by asking

Who is Little Stitch of Nature…

Megan, is one of our youngest stall holders and at 21 is a driving force and true craft fanatic !

She started Little Stitch Of Nature about 3 years ago, after studying Art and Fashion at Reigate College.

'I didn't know what I wanted to I started experimenting! I had used freemotion machine embroidery in my final project of the course and found it was an amazing technique'

You may have noticed a theme on Megan's Stall-  animals and wildlife were her favourite area to work with... and so Little Stitch Of Nature was born.

'I have always loved sewing so starting my own textile art business made sense for me. Says Megan'

She was first inspired to try free hand embroidery after watching C4's Kirstie Allsopp 'give it a go' on one of her crafty shows. Allsopp claimed it was addictive and Megan thoroughly agrees! Kirstie is definitely one of Megan's crafting role models.

'I got to meet her a few years ago and she was so lovely and really funny ... exactly what I hoped she would be!'

You can often find time lapse videos posted on her Little Stitch Of Nature FB page of a piece being created. 'It's amazing how a design can just appear in front of me ... I just shimmy the fabric around whilst looking at a photo and use the thread to draw.' Explains Megan

How did you come to have a stall with us at The Crafter’s Market?

Megan decided that she wanted to exhibit at a few craft fairs to see what happened. After doing a few, with not much success Megan came across The Crafters Market and got in touch. 'I felt instantly at ease with Liz and Sarah'. Megan explained...

'The first one I came to was so lovely and I couldn't wait to do more. I've done every one since (bar one) and have made so many amazing friends.'

If you are ever tempted to apply ... do it ! It's the

best thing I have done, we are all very friendly. Says Megan

What does your future hold?...

Megan is planning on being at a lot more craft fairs around the local area and is looking forward to meeting lots more customers. Megan is always happy to chat about her products and is so passionate about her makes it shines through with all her items and her beautifully thought out stall. She is full of ideas and has a long list of new products and designs in her list for the future. I'm definitely going to be adding more designs to my biggest selling range, the 3 inch embroidery hoops ! Look out for chickens, ducks and maybe even kingfishers!

What is your favourite thing about having/ being a Stall holder at The Crafter’s Market?

Megan enjoys getting feedback about her products. Whether that be from my lovely fellow stall holders... it's amazing to swap ideas and advice, or from customers, I love hearing what new designs they want to see me create!

Megan is always adding a new animal to her ever increasing list. If there is ever anything you fancy i'm sure she will be more than happy to give it a try.

Lastly...we asked Megan for her top tip as a budding crafter and small business owner...

Don't be scared to try new ideas ... if you like it then you'll be able to sell it. It may not become your best seller but that doesn't matter. You'll find what works for your business and it will just click ... keep trying ! Show friends and family but also test it out at craft fairs to see what potential customers think. You'll get honest feedback from them !!
